The Beginners French 1 lessons are tailored for individuals who are embarking on their initial exploration of the French language. This course is specifically designed for those with little to no prior knowledge of French, encompassing speaking, reading, writing, and oral comprehension. The primary focus of these introductory classes is to establish a foundational understanding of the language and foster basic communication skills. This course will not only focus on language acquisition but also on fostering an understanding of the francophone world at large looking at the lasting impact of French colonialism across the francophone world.

Throughout the program, participants will engage in activities aimed at comprehending and participating in simple conversations. The overarching goal is for students to acquire a grasp of fundamental French vocabulary, basic grammar structures, and essential communication strategies. By the conclusion of the course, it is anticipated that participants will have achieved a foundational proficiency at the A1 level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The instructional approach combines context-based learning with proven pedagogical methods suitable for beginners. The course structure emphasises a gradual progression, ensuring that participants feel confident in asking basic questions, expressing simple ideas, and engaging in uncomplicated interactions. This foundational course sets the stage for further language acquisition and a solid understanding of the basics of the French language.

This is a queer-inclusive class open to all, and course topics will be shaped by the interests of the students.
